25 Lessons I Wish I Had Learned WAY Sooner

While stumbling along, I found this post on http://demandingjoy.com and had to re-post.

25 Lessons I Wish I Had Learned WAY Sooner

When I think of my younger, thinner, stupider self, I think, “Holy crap. If I knew then what I know now…” Well, here are some of the things I wish I knew then.

  1. 1 out of 4 people that you meet won’t like you. That’s really OK.
  2. Life isn’t fair. Most of the time it’s not fair in your favor, so don’t whine about life not being fair.
  3. Save your money.
  4. No one knows what you’re thinking unless you tell them.
  5. Perfectionism will kill you.
  6. You’re stronger than you think you are.
  7. You think that sexism and racism were in the olden days. They’re not.
  8. Comparing yourself to others is never a good idea.
  9. When someone shows you who they are, believe them. People are consistent.
  10. Develop critical thinking skills and use them.
  11. Never hide your intelligence from anyone.
  12. Trust your instincts.
  13. 80% of everything is irrelevant
  14. Spend WAY less time worrying about the shape of your body.
  15. Stay away from credit cards.
  16. There are lots of men who will be nice to you. Accept nothing less.
  17. Be nicer to yourself too.
  18. For the most part, it doesn’t matter what people think. Follow your own truth.
  19. No education is wasted. Drink in as many new experiences as you can.
  20. Pay your dues. Work hard.
  21. Networking is critical.
  22. Letting go of control is liberating. Try it.
  23. Don’t treat anyone badly. You’ll be surprised when they’ll pop up again in your life.
  24. Do what you love, not what you think you’re supposed to do.
  25. Don’t forget to enjoy your journey!

MEGA PromoFrenzy Team Sale!!!

What a great month! Not only do we have summer left, there's also 2 excellent reasons to shop!

First, it's the grand opening of BabyPenguinCreations on Etsy! This shop is dedicated to the crafts of my 2 wonderful children, Claudia and Billy. A portion of all the sales will be used to fund their trips to Paris as a part of our school's 5th grade exchange program. I'm working on adding items daily, so be sure and check back often!

Second, it's a MEGA Promo Frenzy event and there are some INCREDIBLE sales going on right now as a part of our MEGA PromoFrenzy Team Sale. Right now there are 56 shops participating, with discounts ranging from 5%-30%! Both LaughingPenguin and BabyPenguinCreations are participating with a discount of 25% off all purchases over $10!

Finding these sales is easy! You can...

  1. ...do an etsy search for promofrenzyteam (if you're looking for something specific, include that in the search as well),
  2. ...follow this link to see all the stores participating along with their discounts...Be sure and go to the last page to make sure you get all of the shops :)
There are many, many great gift ideas if you browse around the shops. Some of my favorites include...

PaintedMemoriesByRos - 15% off these sections - BLANK CARD SETS, MATTED CARDS and FRAMED CARDS. She has some gorgeous cards priced very reasonably. No need to use a coupon code - the prices have already been adjusted

CrochetedbyCharlene - 20% off all orders - I ordered some of her facial cloths and LOVE them.

Impact Jewelry - 15% off all orders! I've been drooling over this button necklace for months!

Also, be sure and check out the shops of our fearless leaders...
And finally, if you're in need of a logo designed, check out Kelly Designs - the mind behind our Team logos - for 20% off all pre-made designs.

My husband - the author :D

3 am! How can it be 3 am? I promised myself I would get to bed at a decent time tonight (or would that be last night?) so that I could get some work done tomorrow...(or today?). At least I was doing something productive, though...publishing my husband's latest short story on Smashwords and Amazon!

Yep, after writing aimlessly all these years, he has some stories out there. They're ebooks - free ebooks - mind you, and there's only 2, but it's such a huge start! I'm so proud of him (as I'm sure you could tell)! If you like to read, take a moment and check out his stories. Feel free to review them on Smashwords.com or Amazon (or both). I'd promise you cookies if you did, but that seems a little to much like bribery ;)

You can find Jon (and his books) online at:

Facebook, his Blog, Smashwords, and Goodreads

Click on the links to go to the download page for the ebooks (they're available in every e-reader form, along with pdf and other computer forms).

The results of the contest are...

...not posted yet. So, as we wait for the results, I've been reading and creating (with some help from the baby penguins).

I started doing some caps with charms/beads on them, and I LOVE the look. Here's one of my favorites so far...the Cheshire cat smile with the words "We're all mad here." For those that know my family, you know it's true :) You can find these new listings on my facebook fan page, and soon in my etsy shop.

Speaking of family, we found a new favorite place in the area! I can't believe I grew up here and have never been to the art center at the Green Lake Conference Center (ABA). We had a women's group get together there last night where we got to paint ceramics. It was great! I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not a painter, but it was a lot of fun, and the prices were really reasonable! Since Jon had to work, the kids came with me, and we paid $18.99 for 4 pieces. We had to go back today since none of us finished last night. Jon came with and painted a turtle sculpture for $3.68. He finished it in the hour we had today, and Billy finished up his Dalmatian and alligator sculptures. Claudia and I still have to finish our pieces before they can be fired. Claudia is working on a little bowl shaped like a lotus flower, and I'm doing a strawberry coffee mug. The art center also has an area for painting china, and a jewelry making area - both of which we're going to have to check out as the summer goes on. I'll post pictures of the finished products when I get them so you can all laugh at my painting ability ;) Until then, enjoy your week!
