Crazy Coupon Carls 1000 fan giveaway!

Hey all Laughing Penguin fans - a good friend of mine and author of the blog Crazy Coupon Carls has reached 1000 fans and is celebrating with a giveaway! She has some awesome prizes up for grabs, including a bamboo necklace and colored pencil earrings from Laughing Penguin Creations

The necklace is made from real bamboo which has been cut, sanded, had the design added, then covered with a water-resistant coating.  It is 2" tall and 1" wide and features a light pink rose and hung on an 18" silver colored chain.  The earrings are made from colored pencils and are 1/4" thick and 1/4" in diameter.  The winner can choose the color of the earrings.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it. I am so glad I did! While I am not a writer (as you can probably tell from my review), I am an avid reader, and was very happy to find this little gem among the many rough books I've received to review. The plot kept moving forward at a good pace. The writing was crisp, clean, and well edited. I was able to connect with the characters as they matured throughout the course of the book. I appreciated the straightforwardness of the writing, with no flashbacks, flash forwards, or other distractions. The product description provides a good glimpse into the story. In short, I loved the book and can't wait to learn more about Trang and the alien races, especially the White Spiders, in future books. Thank you, Mary Sisson, for such a pleasurable read.

When I think of my younger, thinner, stupider self, I think, “Holy crap. If I knew then what I know now…” Well, here are some of the things I wish I knew then.

1. 1 out of 4 people that you meet won’t like you. That’s really OK.
2. Life isn’t fair. Most of the time it’s not fair in your favor, so don’t whine about life not being fair.
3. Save your money.
4. No one knows what you’re thinking unless you tell them.
5. Perfectionism will kill you.
6. You’re stronger than you think you are.
7. You think that sexism and racism were in the olden days. They’re not.
8. Comparing yourself to others is never a good idea.
9. When someone shows you who they are, believe them. People are consistent.
10. Develop critical thinking skills and use them.
11. Never hide your intelligence from anyone.
12. Trust your instincts.
13. 80% of everything is irrelevant
14. Spend WAY less time worrying about the shape of your body.
15. Stay away from credit cards.
16. There are lots of men who will be nice to you. Accept nothing less.
17. Be nicer to yourself too.
18. For the most part, it doesn’t matter what people think. Follow your own truth.
19. No education is wasted. Drink in as many new experiences as you can.
20. Pay your dues. Work hard.
21. Networking is critical.
22. Letting go of control is liberating. Try it.
23. Don’t treat anyone badly. You’ll be surprised when they’ll pop up again in your life.

3 am! How can it be 3 am? I promised myself I would get to bed at a decent time tonight (or would that be last night?) so that I could get some work done tomorrow...(or today?). At least I was doing something productive, though...publishing my husband's latest short story on Smashwords and Amazon!

Yep, after writing aimlessly all these years, he has some stories out there. They're ebooks - free ebooks - mind you, and there's only 2, but it's such a huge start! The results of the contest are...

...not posted yet. So, as we wait for the results, I've been reading and creating (with some help from the baby penguins).

I started doing some caps with charms/beads on them, and I LOVE the look. Here's one of my favorites so far...the Cheshire cat smile with the words "We're all mad here." For those that know my family, you know it's true :) You can find these new listings on my facebook fan page, and soon in my etsy shop.

Speaking of family, we found a new favorite place in the area! I can't believe I grew up here and have never been to the art center at the Green Lake Conference Center (ABA). We had a women's group get together there last night where we got to paint ceramics. It was great! I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not a painter, but it was a lot of fun, and the prices were really reasonable! Since Jon had to work, the kids came with me, and we paid $18.99 for 4 pieces. We had to go back today since none of us finished last night. Jon came with and painted a turtle sculpture for $3.68. He finished it in the hour we had today, and Billy finished up his Dalmatian and alligator sculptures. Claudia and I still have to finish our pieces before they can be fired. Claudia is working on a little bowl shaped like a lotus flower, and I'm doing a strawberry coffee mug. The art center also has an area for painting china, and a jewelry making area - both of which we're going to have to check out as the summer goes on. I'll post pictures of the finished products when I get them so you can all laugh at my painting ability ;) Until then, enjoy your week!

This nine-patch fringe bag is made with a fun quilting technique. The patches are sewn together with the seams out, then the seams are clipped to make a fringe around the patches and the outside of the bag. The bag is then washed to fray the fringes some and give the bag the wonderful worn look. The inside of the bag features a magnetic snap closure, and is made of a soft black flannel with a fun pattern of concentric rainbow circles. This same flannel can be seen poking out in the fringe. The back is made of the same black and white material as the strap, and features 2 pockets. The bag measures 12" square.

500 Fan Celebration! Rules!

Woo Hoo! If you see this post, it means Laughing Penguin Creations now has 500 fans! Now that's cause to celebrate :). In order to thank my fans (who've made this all happen), we have some awesome products up for grabs in the following posts, but to be eligible to win, you must follow the instructions below. Anyone that does not follow the rules will be disqualified from winning.

The comments will be open for two weeks, then the winners will be drawn.
1) By typing "agree" in the comment section below, you agree to abide by the rules and instructions set forth in this contest, that you are at least 18 years old, and that you do not live in any country that is currently embargoed by the US. You also agree that you are disclosing your information solely to Laughing Penguin Creations and the named sponsors, and that you will not hold facebook or anyone else liable for anything that may happen as a result of this celebration.
2) In order to win you must:
~ Type "agree" under this post signifying that you've read and agree to this post.
~ For the items you'd like to enter to win, you must "Like" the fan pages of both Laughing Penguin Creations and the sponsor from your personal page. The links will be posted on every post. Testing out the whole contest thing with a SCAVENGER HUNT!!

Before I have my 500 Fan Celebration, I want to see how this will work using a blog. I'm going to do a scavenger hunt with a few freebies to give away (winner will need to pay $2 shipping US, $3 Canada). If you get all the answers correct, I'll enter you into a drawing (done by random.org)! There will be 4 winners drawn - the first name drawn gets to pick from the prizes first, the second name gets to choose from the 3 items left, etc.

The prizes will be - A Bag of choice from my album Other Bags
A custom boy or girl zombie made with your choice of pants/shirt/dress colors (seen here)
A necklace of choice from the Baby Penguin album
and a necklace of choice from the Bottle Cap album

Facebook (and life) is making me become more and more of a techie :)

With facebook's new rules regarding contests on fan pages, I'm testing out how a giveaway based out of my blog but updated on facebook will work. We'll see what happens :)
